Apparently, the ratings for the Felicity movie were not that good. I don't remember what the numbers were for Samantha's movie, but Felicity was nowhere near Samantha's numbers. Here's the article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/mediaweek/20...hebiggestloser

The Wisconsin State Journal has an interesting article about AG, too.

I apologize to anyone who liked the Samantha movie, but personally I think the Samantha movie was so bad that people probably thought Felicity's was going to be the same and didn't watch. I know a lot of my daughters' friends didn't watch it because it was on a school night. I also don't think Felicity's movie was "hyped" up as much as Samantha's was last year. It seemed like last year everyone knew about the movie. This year when I asked parents if their family was going to watch the movie, the response I got was, "What movie?"

Certainly didn't help the night they had it scheduled was a school night! Samantha aired on a Tuesday as well but Thanksgiving was on Thursday and children were out of school for the holiday. At least that was the way it was at my daughter's school. Donna

Could also be cuz of the confusion over what channel it was on and the different night and time(at least for me).

I was one of the ones who didn't watch because Samantha's was so bad. (To me, an adult without kids. I bet it was fantastic from a kids eyes). I watched that movie while reading a book because I wanted to see it.

I taped it and still haven't gotten around to watching it. The reviews on this board make me think I will like it.

I find this disappointing. I hope they dont just assume it was Felicity that turned people off, and stop making things for her.

I also hope this isnt the end of the movies. Surely it'll sell pretty well on DVD, and maybe they'll just make them straight to video from now on? Or something.

My kids and I loved Felicity movie. I thought the acting from the Felicity charater was so good. I never heard of that actress, but I really liked her acting. Too bad Elizabeth character didn't stand out too much.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You know it might be that Felicity is the reason so many people didn't tune in. Because of what AG did to her, people didn't know who she was to tune into. Kids knew who Samantha was and they wanted to see her in action.

Sure everyone on this board would tune in to see "Susannah: An American Girl" but most of us are obsessed. How many people are going to watch a movie about something they know nothing about just because it is made by a familiar brand?

My aunt bought Felicity for her daughter and was astonished when I told her I had one that was 14 years old. She thought Felicity was brand new. She asked me if I had an Elizabeth from when I was a kid too? I had to tell her, no, it's Elizabeth who is brand new. Felicity is well established (at least to me.)

This might affect them making movies after their 3 part is through with Julia Roberts... Hmm. I hope this doesn't affect the friends..I'd hate for them to quite after Emily! I want to see more dolls! But, surely it shouldn't affect Felicty the doll, they would look at sales more than a movie, surely. So I wouldn't worry about that.

Ratings and shares are really a numbers game, and unless you're a big company like Coke marketing to a wide variety of people, they don't tell the entire story.

The ratings quoted were based on total viewers ages 18-49, which would include adult males and females - not AG's target group. The ratings/share that AG would be interested in are girls ages 18 and under. So, in another words, if every girl the age of 13 or so and younger was watching the Felicity movie it demonstrates target saturation - great not only for AG but also any other companies targeting this particular demographic.

I think the fact that it was held on a school night really hurt AG. When I was 8 or 10 or so, my bedtime was 8 p.m. - which would be just when the movie was starting in eastern time zones. I know people here in the central time zone (when it aired from 7-9 p.m.) who did let their kids watch, but they had to already be fed, bathed, pajamed and ready for bed. I did end up letting my daughter watch, but only because she had been home sick that day and had napped extensively throughout the day. Most of my friends plan on buying the movie and having watch parties the weekend after. It will be interesting to see if Felicity DVD sales outpace Samantha's.
